Have you heard of Hanfu?
Does "Hanfu" ring a bell? The emerging trend of Hanfu clothing impressed me during my recent trip to China in March, especially since I did not perceive it as strongly last fall.

This trend is practically ageless: Chinese people of all ages are embracing traditional clothing styles, signaling a strong cultural self-awareness. Hanfu clothing varies widely and is often inspired by the styles of the Tang, Song, and Ming dynasties—periods considered as cultural zeniths in China. Interestingly, the styles of the Qing dynasty are absent, reflecting the desire of many Han Chinese to revisit cultural traditions that existed before the rule of the Manchu Qing dynasty—using clothing as a medium to express cultural and historical identity. The garments are therefore not only beautiful and traditional but also symbolic: they honor the past while simultaneously seeking modern ways to express culture.
During my time in China, I observed how those who wear Hanfu do so with a sense of pride and belonging. They also enjoy being photographed in it, choosing beautiful backdrops for their pictures (see images).
Thus, the Hanfu trend in China is more than just a fashion fad; it is a profound sign of cultural self-discovery and national pride. In a time of relative prosperity, people are rediscovering their cultural roots.
