What it’s like to be able to speak to a robot in a library, explain your needs, and then receive assistance through an avatar to borrow magazines or e-books? Well, it’s definitely interesting. My acquaintance Zhihan briefly explained to me how it works (see video). For the ‘classic’ borrowing process, the robot autonomously navigates through the library, identifies, and retrieves the desired media. Users can communicate with the robot via an interactive display or voice commands to borrow books or magazines. For e-books and magazines, the large display and the avatar, which asks me what I am looking for and makes suggestions, are sufficient. The Bookan interface allows for simple and advanced full-text search in all contents. For on-site access, IP authentication is used, and for remote access, remote authentication is provided. Users can access various formats, including multimedia original versions, HTML text, audio, and downloadable versions via a QR code. The access to information and media is greatly facilitated and modernizes the borrowing process.
